Review of the BMBF SME Conference 2023:
The German AI Service Centres were there!

The BMBF SME Conference took place at the WECC Berlin on 21 and 22 November 2023. Under the theme “Strengthening SMEs with digital innovations”, partners from industry, research and politics discussed possible applications of digital solutions and learnt about the latest technologies. Explainable AI was presented as an important factor in establishing AI applications with broad societal acceptance in the future.

The programme covered both technical and economic aspects. AI applications outperform conventional solutions in terms of time and efficiency and reduce costs and management effort, which ultimately means a win for the industry. In addition to exciting presentations, the programme included posters, coaching sessions, project pitches and networking opportunities.

Members of the recently founded German AI service centres were also on site: KISSKI with a focus on energy and medicine, WestAI, AI Service Centre Berlin-Brandenburg and hessian.AI Service Center. The four centres offered their expertise at a joint exhibition stand. The participating SMEs had the opportunity to discuss their needs and requirements. A large proportion of the SMEs present confirmed that they need the services of the service centres and are considering using them in the future. Most enquiries were aimed at developing an optimal AI solution for products or services, testing an existing service, launching products or AI solutions on the market, or training employees on AI concepts and solutions.

The significance of AI as a service in Germany for Germany has become clearer as a result of the event.
