Life Science Day 2023

Life Science Tag 2023 This year’s Lower Saxony Life Science Day in Hannover brought together leading players from Lower Saxony in the field of life sciences to discuss the potential of artificial intelligence.

The event began with a welcoming address by Minister for Economic Affairs Olaf Lies, who highlighted the opportunities of artificial intelligence in the life sciences sector. The event continued with a keynote speech on Digital Twins by Prof. Dr. Sascha Beutel, followed by a discussion round in which various representatives from science and industry took part. The discussion was moderated by Dr Johannes Winter from the L3S Research Center, a partner from the KISSKI consortium. An important message that came up repeatedly in the discussions was to focus on the potential of big data in the life sciences rather than seeing it as a risk.

After lunch, various projects from Lower Saxony presented their work, including Dr. Manuel Nietert from the KISSKI consortium partner University Medical Center Göttingen, who presented his “AutoBuSTeD” project to automate and standardise a test for diagnosing cystic fibrosis. Further fascinating insights were provided by Dr. Artjom Avakian from Elpis Simulation GmbH, a start-up from Hann. Münden that uses numerical simulations to model blood flow in the brain and thus aims to improve the therapy of stroke patients.

We would like to thank BioRegioN for organising this event and hope that the insights into the life science sector in Lower Saxony will also lead to future contacts for KISSKI.
